New D&D Ravenloft Comic Book Coming Soon from Dark Horse

As part of its ongoing licensing deal with Wizards of the Coast, Dark Horse Comics has just announced another new Dungeons & Dragons comic book – this time with a focus one of the game’s most beloved campaigns settings.

Simply entitled Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft, the four-issue mini series is written by by Bram Stoker Award–winning horror author Amy Chu and illustrated by Ariela Kristantina (best known for her series The Girl Who Draws on Whales). The book will be coming out in August 2026 which, not coincidentally, will be just a few months after a major return to the Domains of Dread with the new D&D supplement Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

Below, we take a closer look at what to expect in this new comic book journey through the Mists.

What is the Dungeons & Dragons Ravenloft comic book about?

On a recent blog post on the official Dark Horse Comics website the series is described as follows: “Ravenloft is falling apart, and nobody knows why. Fortunately, monster hunter Ez D’Avenir is on the case! She’s searching the frozen wasteland of Lamordia for an undead creature that may hold the key to Ravenloft’s fate. But when Darklord Viktra Mordenheim catches wind of her quest, Ez is suddenly the one being hunted!”

Notably, Lamordia is one of the lesser known Domains of Dread in the lore of Ravenloft and is a barren coastal region famed for its blizzards. The antagonist of Viktra Mordenheim appears to be a new character, but is most likely related to Victor Mordenheim (an infamous Darklord and Ravenloft’s equivalent to Doctor Frankenstein).

It’s an interesting approach and surprising given that most Ravenloft media tie-ins have been focused more on the realm of Barovia and the vampire lord Count Strahd von Zarovich (including the recent D&D novel Heir of Strahd).

Who is the creative team on the D&D Ravenloft comic?

The team working on the mini series consists of writer Amy Chu (who is best know for her horror novels Carmilla: The First Vampire), with interior art by Ariela Kristantina (who has worked with a number of major comic publishers), coloring by Arif Prianto (who has recently worked on Absolute Batman) and lettering from Eisner-winning arist Haley Rose-Lyon.

The series will also feature a number of variant covers by artists including Guillem March, Riley Rossmo, Francesco Francavilla, Todor Hristov, and Angela Wu (all of whom will be drawing alternate covers for issue #1, with additional alternate covers appearing for future issues).

Final Thoughts

Dark Horse has put out a surprising number of D&D comic books in just a short period of time, having only acquired the license back in July of 2024. Their key books include a new Fallbacks series (based on the D&D novels of the same name) and the recently series Total Party Killers (a tongue-in-cheek mini series that follows the adventures of a group of down-on-their-luck dungeon-dwelling monsters).

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the series in the days ahead, with the first issue coming out on August 19th, 2026. In the meantime, you can learn more on the Dark Horse website.
